Mike Tappin and Rakesh Jayaswal have undergone years of extensive training in the UK and abroad. They have substantial experience in all aspects of laser eye surgery and continue to be involved in the development of new, advanced ophthalmic treatments. Both Surgeons are dedicated to delivering the highest standards of patient care and treatment, and have excellent reputations in delivering high quality results for their patients.
Mr Mike Tappin
Consultant Surgeon Mike Tappin trained at St Mary’s Medical School in London and later specialised in Ophthalmology. He has undertaken specialist training in corneal, laser and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hosptial and The Charles Gairdner Eye Institute in Perth, Australia. He is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Tappin has an NHS practice at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford and St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. He also has private clinics at the Woking Nuffield Hospital and the Runnymede Hospital in Chertsey.
Among the highlights of his career has been the development of the pioneering corneal graft technique ‘TenCell’, now known as DMEK; he was the first surgeon in the UK to perform this technique in 2005.
Mr Rakesh Jayaswal
Consultant Surgeon at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, Rakesh Jayaswal trained at Manchester Medical School and undertook general surgical training prior to his ophthalmic training in Sheffield, Nottingham and London. He has completed aFellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Mr Jayaswal specialises in the treatment of corneal and anterior eye disease as well as cataract and refractive surgery. He is a member of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).
Mr Jayaswal also has private clinics in BMI Sarum Road in Winchester, Optegra in Solent, and in the Spire Hospital, Portsmouh. He has several publications in peer review journals and continues to be actively involved in research. He has presented in national and international meetings and has been invited to review papers in Eye.
